7 Universal Laws

The Seven Universal Laws (often called the Hermetic Principles) are key teachings in Hermeticism and esoteric philosophy. They are said to govern the physical and spiritual realms, providing a blueprint for understanding the universe and our place in it. Here they are:

1. The Law of Mentalism

  • "The All is Mind."
  • This principle states that everything in the universe is mental in nature. The universe itself, along with all phenomena, is a creation of the mind. In other words, reality is shaped by the mind and consciousness.

2. The Law of Correspondence

  • "As above, so below; as below, so above."
  • This law explains that there is harmony and correspondence between the different planes of existence: the physical, mental, and spiritual. What happens on one level mirrors what happens on other levels. It suggests that understanding one level can give insight into another.

3. The Law of Vibration

  • "Nothing rests; everything moves and vibrates."
  • This law states that everything in the universe is in constant motion and vibration. Even matter, which appears to be solid, is made up of atoms and particles that are constantly vibrating. This vibration creates different frequencies that affect the material and spiritual worlds.

4. The Law of Polarity

  • "Everything is dual; everything has its pair of opposites."
  • This principle tells us that everything has an opposite. It’s the dual nature of the universe—light and dark, hot and cold, good and evil. These opposites are actually two extremes of the same thing and can be transformed into each other.

5. The Law of Rhythm

  • "Everything flows in and out; everything has its tides."
  • According to this law, everything in the universe moves in cycles and rhythms. From the rise and fall of civilizations to the changing of seasons and phases of the moon, there is a natural rhythm to all things. Understanding these cycles can help us navigate life more effectively.

6. The Law of Cause and Effect

  • "Every action has a corresponding reaction."
  • This law asserts that nothing happens by chance, and everything has a cause. Each action, thought, and event generates an effect, which in turn becomes the cause of future effects. Understanding this principle can help us take responsibility for our actions and choices.

7. The Law of Gender

  • "Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles."
  • This law suggests that the masculine and feminine energies exist in all things. They don’t just apply to biological sex, but to all aspects of the universe, including ideas, thoughts, and emotions. Both energies are necessary for creation and balance in the universe.

These laws are seen as keys to understanding the deeper workings of the universe, and applying them can lead to greater wisdom, personal transformation, and mastery over one's own life and consciousness.
